10 Curl Commandments: Avoid Tangles, Have Healthy and Beautiful Hair!

c13

Tangled hair is never fun. In fact, it’s painful, and annoying when you can’t get them out! So, I thought I’d share some easy tips to help you avoid annoying tangled hair that works for me and will for you too if you’re PERSISTENT!

1. THOU SHALT KEEP HAIR MOISTURIZED AND DEEP CONDITIONED.

I can’t stress this enough conditioning your hair is crucial to healthy, defined, frizz-less, less tangles or tangled free hair. You can try different conditioning methods or do all if your hair responds well to all of them. You can condition your hair in the shower apply leave in conditioners and/or deep conditioning. I personally do all of them because my hair is extremely thirsty so I require a lot of conditioning and because my hair requires so much moisture I do the L.O.C method and I feel the should be every curly girl’s routine because it really does lock the moisture in and your hair looks and feels so healthy. Try to deep condition 1 or 2 times a week depending on how dry your hair is and if you have oily hair then apply the deep conditioner on your ends.

2. THOU SHALT DO THE CHILL RINSE.

This is the secret to shiny hair so shhhhhhhhh don’t tell no body.. Ready? Ok here it goes! Rinse with COLD water yes cold not warm. Yes it will give you the chills all over, but not only will your hair thank you for it your body will too because it closes your pores and keeps your skin tight and ladies let’s face it that’s heaven talk for us lol. So tolerate the chill in the shower to be able to chill with your shiny locks and tight skin all year round;) Whether it’s summer, spring, fall or winter weather it doesn’t matter the season, always rinse with cold water because cold water closes your hair’s cuticles, so it stays softer and shinier. It’s easier to comb and it’s not as likely to get tangled throughout the day. Also, once a month rinse your hair with organic apple cider vinegar this restores the Ph balance to your hair and enhances shine.

3. THOU SHALT DETANGLE FOR LESS TANGLE.

Detangling products are a genie in a bottle for me because not only does it help you slide your fingers and comb through your hair easily but it also helps strengthen and keep your hair super moisturized. You don’t even have to break your bank buying any detangling products if you don’t want to, you can simply mix a 1 1/2 table spoon of your favorite curly hair conditioner in a water bottle with water fill it up and shake it up and you got yourself a detangling spritz!

4. THOU SHALT COMB INSTEAD OF BRUSHING.

Combing is easier on detangling, and less hair breakage. I honestly don’t even use a comb I comb threw my hair with my fingers and it’s just as efficient as it is to detangle with a comb.
5. THOU SHALT STOP THE BUNCHING.

Using the right techniques to wash and dry your hair will also help you avoid tangles. You only need to suds the roots of your hair when you shampoo, I use to work the shampoo into the ends as well but when I learned that leads to more tangles I stopped immediately and have less tangles in my hair.
6. THOU SHALT SAY NO TO ALCOHOL.

Your hair gets more tangled with alcohol based products It’s damaging to your hair anyway, and if you’re prone to tangles, then alcohol based products are even worse. Really focus on sticking with gentle, natural products that promise smoothness to your hair.
7. THOU SHALT PROTECT THY PRECIOUS CURLS WHILE SLEEPING.

If you know what it’s like to wake up looking worse than the frog in the princess story and having tangled, snarled hair, you have my sympathy. The good news is that there are several things you can do to look like a beautiful curly hair princess and avoid a birds nest of bed head in the morning. You can try any one of these curly sleeping beauty methods that is more comfortable for you. 1. Tie your hair up in a bun, braid, or ponytail (pineapple style) before you go to sleep. 2. wrap your hair in a silk scarf. 3. Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. Anyone of these choices will have you walking up with little or no tangles or dryness because remember as I mentioned above cotton soaks up the moisture in your hair. Above all else, please don’t go to sleep with soaking wet, uncombed hair this is a set up for tangles in your hair!
8. THOU SHALT GO TOWEL-LESS!

Most girls wrap their hair in a towel after their wash but that can actually cause damage. Wrapping up your hair can lead to more tangles when you remove the towel! So Instead, pat your hair with the a cotton t-shirt and just let it air dry or dry your hair with a diffuser not scrunching your hair but letting the diffuser do its job. I will post the right way to diffuse your curls to be curlfident:)

9. THOU SHALT TRIM THE DEAD.

Reality check some damage is permanent, so face the truth and keep your hair healthy, get your ends trimmed regularly. Trust me It’ll promote hair growth and help keep your hair tangle-free!

10. THOU SHALT LOVE THY HAIR NO MATTER THE TEXTURE, LENGTH, TYPE OR CURL PATTERN.

10 should have been number one to me! I promote self love like I’m getting paid for it! Well, I am but not in dollars worth instead I’m getting paid in all the self acceptance and of course best of all self love worth and that’s such a rich and wealthy feeling. Curls are simply beautiful, sexy and oh so sassy ( snapping fingers) LOL! I’m always feeling CURLFIDENT no matter my curl pattern, good or bad hair day because I’ve learned how to first self love me, myself and I!
BEST ADVICE TO PASS ALONG:

THOU SHALT NOT BECOME A PRODUCT JUNKIE!  This will hurt your bank account and clutter up your space, so say NO! It’s important to invest and nourish your hair with good quality ingredients. Do your research, read reviews, test and buy all natural products that give results. And just simply SAY NO TO CLUTTER!
