Why Pre-Poos are a Must for Healthier Hair!

Hola everyone! Ok so I want to talk about the benefits of pre-poos for your hair before shampooing. You should never wash your hair again without pre-pooing because there’s a huge different in hairs appearance, strength and sheen. I will break down as many of the endless benefits short, sweet and simply informative put for you to want to do it too!

Great question! (Pre-poo a.k.a Pre- shampoo treatment) is when you saturates your hair when dry by applying a moisturizer, oil, hair butter, or a combination of them all and/or other beneficial foods like avocados, banana, yogurt and honey.

Applying a pre-poo will lubricate your hair which will make removing the knots and tangles easier.

It reduces breakage while detangling by softening the hair fibre and making it more elastic.

It helps to soften dirt and debris on hair fibres so that it slides off easier during the washing process.

Helps reduce cracking and damage to the hair cuticles. When our hair is being washed, it absorbs water and expands/increases in size.

After washing our hair returns to its normal size however when doing so the outer layer( the cuticle) can crack as our hair dries.

Helps avoid “squeaky clean” hair that can cause dry, brittle hair and excessive split ends

Applying as a pre-poo can help to reduce how much our hair swells during washing and reduce the risk of the cuticle cracking as our hair dries.

The picture above is my pre-poo mix of last weeks wash which is a mix of  1/2 teaspoon of each oil warm up in a jar or glass cup on boiled water in a saucepan. Leave on for 15-30 minutes or like I do for an hour or while I clean, watch a movie, read, play with kids or water you want to do while allowing the benefits to soak in your strands. Then rinse off and wash away, then enjoy your CURLFIDENT mane;)

  • Oils- extra virgin Olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, sesame oil, jojoba oil etc.
  • House hold foods like avocado, yogurt, banana, honey, etc.
  • store bought hair mask or conditioners
  • Homemade treatments

All the oils I mentioned are great for sealing in moisture, adding strength and adding shine much more.

Yogurt is a great source of protein and helps hair gain strength.

Honey is an emollient and that helps hair with hair loss by boosting the hair follicle for more growth and the humectant in the honey helps retain moisture in the scalp and though out the hair.

Avocado has monounsaturated fatty acids, full of vitamins D, A, B6, E high levels of antioxidants , potassium, protein and the Vitamin E in the avocado is well absorbed into our scalp and hair shafts. This not only has a highly moisturizing and protective effect against environmental stressors and damage, it also helps  stimulate new growth and help unclog blocked follicles.

Banana is packed with vitamin A, B6, C, E as well as Zinc , Iron and its rich in potassium that strengthens hair, minimizes breakage by restoring your hairs natural elasticity, and it encourages repair of damaged hair and it adds moisture to your hair as they contain natural oils and about 75% water.

I’ll post different pre-poos every week stay tuned;)
